Wandering the City

I went on a very long walk exploring new areas and taking pictures a few Saturdays ago. I decided to go behind the flower market and all the tall buildings toward the red river. I love to just walk around and peek into the homes here, to get a glimpse of people's life story.  I see an entire family sitting down eating lunch on the floor, someone sweeping the outside of their store, or a person brushing their hair from just getting out of the shower. I love it!

My goal of going back this way was to make it to the Red River, but there was no way to make it to the river from this part. Instead I came across small farms for vegetables or fruits and flowers. There were so many of these farms, which I found amazing! I never knew this was right behind these tall buildings. As I kept on going farther and farther back I found a lot of graves. I haven't seen above ground graves here until now. I also got to see the bone boxes up close for the first time which were across the road from the graves. It was very interesting to find this huge grave site with all these carvings. They had engravings and pictures of I'm guessing that individual person who is dead.

I found this dead frog in the road and I though it looked pretty cool. Poor thing.

This woman walks her dogs everyday. I see her in the morning and in the afternoon.

I can't remember if I mentioned earlier that they dry their clothes outside on a balcony of the home. It really adds color and a unique look to the city.

There are so many creatures here! A lot of spiders, lizards and other bugs! I hope you enjoy all my photos, I want to show all of them!

I decided that I wasn't seeing as many things as I wanted because there weren't too many people around. I began to walk toward the old quarters. It was so much fun! I love just walking around taking photos and seeing all the activities you would never see if you were rushing to get somewhere on a bike. I saw a man and a women fixing shoes by sewing them back together, barber shops along the road, and men smoking a special pipe.

The barber shops are very cool here! All around the city (and I feel like everywhere) someone will put up a mirror on a tree or a wall. And you have someone to cut your hair! I have seen the barber with a head light on their head so they can really give the best haircut.

All the shops along the road that I was walking on were very busy and full of life, just like every part of Hanoi! There were a lot of women washing the dishes of a restaurant or home outside with a few tubs. I find it interesting that they are washing them just like how my family would do it when we used to go camping when we were younger.
This woman is one of the many people who pick up garbage along the streets of Hanoi. Not all of them wear a bright vest or a hat but they are sweeping all day to keep the streets as clean as possible. They fill up carts of garbage then later at night big garbage trucks come along to take it all away.
This mosaic wall is for the celebration of 1,000 years of the city of Hanoi. It goes on for a few miles down a road that goes to the airport. Different companies or groups chose a theme to portray in their section of the wall. The put together the tiles outside of the city then plastered it onto the wall.
There are tons of women selling fruit along the side of the road everywhere you go in Hanoi. They carry and sell the fruit on these woven baskets. A lot of the older women will ride bicycles around the city.

This man and woman below are fixing up shoes on the side of the road. They have a chair and put up their shop on the sidewalk. They have a needle and thread and work on the shoes all day long.
They have old cars that are open that will transport products around the city. They are a dark green in color and this older man is wearing a cool hat while driving one! Also you can see he has a beaded cover on his seat; it's round pieces of bamboo. It's very popular in cars to have one of these.
There was a little boy who came running up to me and shook my hand. He said in perfect English "Hello" then ran away to his family. The children here are adorable! I just want to play with them all!
Here is a man who feel asleep in the heat at his shop. He was dead to the world even with all the crazy traffic right outside his door!
